Stanford University Press seeks an energetic, experienced publishing professional to acquire scholarly and trade books in sociology and Asian studies. Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief, this individual will play a key role in the development and shaping of both lists for the Press. Responsibilities include acquiring and developing 25 titles per year, soliciting and evaluating proposals and manuscripts, working with series editors, preparing publishing plans to present to the editorial board, negotiating contracts with authors or agents, and consulting with production and marketing. The acquisitions editor works closely with authors, as well as a shared editorial assistant, to ensure that manuscripts are of high quality, well prepared, and meet scholarly, market, and financial expectations. The acquisitions editor is expected to travel to scholarly conferences and university campuses. Title and salary will be commensurate with experience.
