Under supervision of the Museum’s Executive Director, the Assistant Curator initiates, designs, plans, researches, implements and evaluates collection growth and exhibitions in 19th through 21st century American art; oversees collections stewardship; plans, researches, implements, and evaluates the contemporary art exhibition series; seeks, researches traveling exhibitions for presentation at the NJ State Museum; works with Education staff to develop meaningful educational programs for learners of all ages; performs research; lectures on topics related to the Museum’s collections & exhibitions; writes scholarly and popular essays; works cooperatively with other curatorial disciplines at Museum; keeps current with scholarship and trends in American art and New Jersey art/artists; maintains budget and program statistics, supervises staff and volunteer projects as needed; contributes to relevant grant applications, researches funding sources and writes funding proposals to corporations, foundations and individuals, as needed; participates in overall planning of the Museum’s exhibitions, events and public programs; represents the Museum at professional organizations; does related work as required.
