The Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages at the American University of Beirut seeks applicants for a faculty position in the field of Semitic languages and literatures with special focus on Syriac to begin August 15, 2017. Preference will be for a scholar having a successful experience in seeking external funding, demonstrating an interest and expertise in matters pertaining to Arab Christianity in the pre-Islamic era or in Christian/Muslim relations in the early Islamic era or in both. A reading knowledge of French and/or German is highly desirable. Full working knowledge of Standard Arabic is essential.
