The History Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is seeking to make a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor with primary fields in Public and Digital History. Geographic field and period of research are open. UWM ranks in the Carnegie Classifications as a Community Engagement institution and as a doctoral university with the highest research activity (R1). Applicants must have a clear research agenda demonstrated by publications, public scholarship, and/or digital products, as well as show evidence of teaching ability through courses taught or planned, experience teaching in a public history setting, or other pedagogical activities. Teaching responsibilities will include courses at the graduate level in public history and digital history, and may also include museum studies, local history, oral history, and courses in the candidate’s secondary field of interest. Undergraduate courses may include any of these. We expect the new appointee to play a leading role in the department’s large and long-standing MA in Public History, contribute to the department’s PhD program, help shape the department’s growing digital presence, and link with other digital humanities scholars across campus.
