The Ancient Studies Department at the University of Maryland Baltimore County invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) to begin in August 2017. A Ph.D. in a discipline related to the ancient world is required by the time of appointment. The Department is committed to inclusive excellence and seeks to hire a scholar-teacher capable of enhancing the diversity of its faculty, courses, and approaches to knowledge of the ancient world. The successful candidate will be able to teach Latin at all levels, have a strong grounding in material culture, and preferably specialize in a geographic area and culture outside of Greece and Italy. Scholars conducting research on Greece and/or Italy who are enthusiastic about offering innovative classes in social and cultural history are also encouraged to apply.
