Early American literature (seventeenth- and eighteenth-century), with a focus on multiethnic literature and hemispheric American studies. Sub-fields may include one or more of the following: captivity narratives, exploration narratives, Native American cultures, early slave narratives, and border literature. Secondary area: eighteenth- and nineteenth-century African American writers.
