Saint Mary’s College of California invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the Ethnic Studies Program. We will consider candidates at any rank. Our program consists of a longstanding minor with broad faculty and student engagement and a newly approved major. We expect the successful candidate to assume directorship of the program within two years of hiring, if not immediately. Ethnic Studies is an interdisciplinary program based in social justice education, critical race theory and anti-racist and feminist pedagogies. The successful candidate will contribute to core course offerings, including ES 001 (Introduction to Ethnic Studies), ES 050 (Creating Community), ES 101 (Critical Race Theory), ES 196 (Senior Capstone Project). The successful candidate will have the opportunity, based in their area(s) of expertise, to create special topics courses, preferably in Comparative Ethnic Studies emphasizing the experiences of women of color in a U.S. context or in African American Studies.

We seek a social scientist focused on the intersections of race, class, culture, inequality, and the distribution and management of public resources for the common good. We invite applications from scholar-educators specializing in one or more of the following areas: public policy and advocacy, non-profit and community-based leadership, social entrepreneurship, social work, human rights or civil rights. The successful candidate will be well-versed in social science methods of research, with a focus in at least one of the following areas of social justice research: community-based research, participatory action research, critical race theory or counter-storytelling, feminist methodologies, critical and indigenous methodologies.
