The History program (within the Department of History and Political Science) of the University of Southern Maine seeks to hire a tenure track Assistant Professor of Modern European History (post-1600, region and time period open), with a second field of teaching expertise in the Middle East, Africa, or the Atlantic World. Beginning in fall 2017, the successful candidate will teach the Western Civilization survey, must have (or be willing to acquire) expertise in online teaching, and will teach at least one upper level course in their area of specialty each semester. The Department also sponsors an interdisciplinary minor in Race and Ethnic Studies and would welcome candidates whose teaching and research fields align with the minor.

Qualified candidates must hold a PhD or terminal degree in Ethnic Studies or a related field and have expertise in American Indian Studies and Comparative Ethnic Studies. Specific areas of research are open; however, we are especially interested in work that addresses health, environmental justice, and/or decolonization.
