The National Humanities Alliance Foundation invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellow to implement a project entitled “The Publicly Engaged Humanities: A Survey of the Field.” The project will document the full range of publicly engaged humanities work that college and university faculty and students have carried out over the past decade. Working with National Humanities Alliance staff, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will: collect examples of publicly-engaged humanities work; formulate synthetic claims about the state of the field; carry out a comprehensive communications strategy aimed at practitioners and public audiences; and collaborate with a developer to create a visually rich website that features representative project profiles. The project is supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

We seek a writer who may specialize in a certain writing genre, but can also teach writing and literature courses in a wide range of genres: poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, scriptwriting, journalism, playwriting, composition, blogging. Given our students’ strong interests in questions of power and identity, structural inequalities and violence, and environmental justice, the foci of candidates’ scholarship and creative work should engage in the intersections of poetics and politics, or of words and the world. Particular emphases may be Black/Africana studies, decolonial/postcolonial literatures, feminism and writing, or Native modes of writing and thinking, among many possibilities. An ideal candidate will be able to teach courses that develop the creative writing skills and personal voices of students, as well as to help students examine the literary, theoretical, historical, political, and cultural contexts within which writing emerges.

Every undergraduate student at Yale is assigned to one of fourteen distinctive and vibrant living communities called residential colleges. Every college houses a Head of College and a Dean who share responsibility for the operation of the college. Residential College Deans provide academic and personal counseling to undergraduates’ administer and participate in residential college functions, including housing and extracurricular activities’ serve on Yale College committees; and teach one or two courses per year. The Dean resides in an apartment within the college, has an office in the college and receives a meal plan in the college dining hall. Living quarters are suitable for spouses and children, if applicable. The dean must have an advanced degree and be qualified to teach courses in Yale College.
